Virtual fireside chat across the pond
GCB, Meetings Today and Quinn PR partnered up to host virtual panel discussion
Meetings Today, Quinn PR and the GCB German Convention Bureau’s New York City team partnered up to host their first joint virtual live panel discussion. The event took place last week and focused on the industry’s current challenges, changes and opportunities. Fitting the occasion, both German and American experts were among the guests and the event attracted 240 attendees from around the world. Diane Pentaleri-Otto from Estrel Berlin and Katharina Bitterle from the Stuttgart Convention Bureau joined the panel from Germany. In addition to Richie Karaburun, Assistant Professor of Hospitality and Tourism at NYU’s School of Professional Studies, three planners from the United States participated in the discussion: Jessica Pagonis from the Optical Society of America, Victoria Lee from Estee Lauder and Michael Nelson from Origin Event Planning. The one-hour event was filled with the guests’ professional experiences and stories of human kindness: whilst some are sewing masks, others are finding new ways to support their neighborhoods. One thing has become clear though: The industry must focus on reorganizing, redesigning and further developing meeting spaces, contracting terms, catering policies and other event-related topics.

The German Convention Bureau’s New York team is currently working on a second edition of its live panel discussion. The upcoming event will focus on rebuilding aspects after the crisis. Future announcements will also be made available on eventcrisis.org.
